About the EdD Programme
- The Doctor of Education ("EdD") is a 120 ECTS credits (equivalent to 240 UK credits) online doctoral programme.
- It allows students to achieve dual doctoral awards from IBES and VERN University.
- The programme will be managed and promoted by IBES for all off-campus delivery.
Qualifications, professional registration, and accreditation. Successful applicants will gain a dual award Doctorate Degree (EdD) from IBES and VERN University.
Programme Structure
Route 1 - Mixed Mode
This route has taught modules, and a Thesis.
The Mixed Mode comprises of 5 taught modules at 10 ECTS credits each and a Thesis at 70 ECTS credits as follows:
The modules are:
- Understanding Learning and Learners
- Creating A Conducive Learning Environment
- Managing and Leading Digital Education
- Leadership and Organisation Transformation
- Education Research and Methodology
- Thesis (20,000 – 30,000 words)
Route 2 - Research Mode
There is a more extensive ‘Thesis only’ route comprising:
- Thesis preparation and Thesis Proposal of 4,500 – 5,000 words (25% of the marks)
- Final Thesis of 40,000 – 45,000 words (75% of the marks)
Entry Requirements
- A Master’s degree in any field; or
- Other qualifications recognised by IBES as equivalent to a Master’s degree.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency in order to participate in the programme taught in English.
- Proficiency of English shall include either a recognised English proficiency testing score of IELTS overall band of 6.0 or equivalent. Those having undertaken either an undergraduate, postgraduate or professional qualification taught and assessed in English will also be accepted as having met the English proficiency.
- Subject to the final approval of IBES, any potential student who have done a qualification examined in English at European Qualification Framework ( EQF) level 3 and above would satisfy the English requirement.
- For those that are not able to provide the above proof of English, The student can enroll for an English test administered by ESOL Awards and on passing this at B2 level, The student would satisfy the English language requirement. Please contact IBES for details.

Besides my Bachelor of Arts degree with Merit from the National University of Singapore (NUS), I have earned the following four Masters degrees: Master of Arts in Criminology with Distinction (Leicester, England, UK), Master of Education in Training & Development (Sheffield, England, UK), Master of Public Policy & Management with Distinction (Monash, Melbourne, Australia), Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation (Murdoch, Western Australia) with High Distinction.
I was privileged to be trained first, at the Third International Leadership Programme “Leadership in Conflict Resolution”(International Leadership Academy, United Nations University) in 1999; second, at the John F Kennedy School of Government (now better known as Harvard Kennedy School), Harvard University (Boston, USA) through the Advanced Leadership Program “Leadership for the 21st Century: Chaos, Conflict and Courage” in 2007; and third, the Executive Programme on Strategic Digital Marketing with Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS), the University of Cambridge in 2018. These world-class experiences enabled me to appreciate the key essence of leadership and lifelong learning.
