Programme Aims
The programme aims to:
Develop deep disciplinary knowledge in education, pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and learner development.
Equip learners with practical teaching skills, including lesson planning, classroom management, and inclusive instructional strategies.
Foster ethical, reflective, and learner-centred professional identities aligned with global teaching standards.
Embed digital literacy, educational technology, Artificial Intelligence and data-driven decision-making into teaching practice.
Prepare graduates for professional teaching roles across diverse educational settings.
Enable learners to demonstrate competence through school-based practice, micro-teaching, and applied educational projects.
Prepare graduates for Master’s level study (EQF Level 7).
Programme Learning Outcomes
Year 1:
Knowledge & Understanding: Explain foundational concepts in educational psychology, sociology of education, and learner development; describe key principles of teaching, learning, assessment, and inclusive education; identify ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities in teaching.
Professional Teaching Skills: Apply basic teaching strategies and classroom interaction techniques; prepare lesson plans and learning resources; use basic communication skills to engage learners and collaborate with others.
Transferable Skills: Communicate effectively with learners, colleagues, and parents; work collaboratively in educational teams; demonstrate basic information literacy and reflective practice skills.
Year 2:
Knowledge & Understanding: Integrate educational theory with classroom practice; analyse curriculum design, teaching strategies, behaviour management, and assessment approaches; evaluate the use of educational technology and data in supporting learning.
Professional Skills: Design lessons, assessments, and learning resources; apply behaviour management and inclusive teaching strategies; use educational technology effectively to enhance learner engagement.
Transferable Skills: Lead small group activities and collaborate in professional teams; conduct classroom-based inquiry and reflective practice; make informed decisions using basic educational data.
Year 3:
Knowledge: Critically evaluate the intersections of pedagogy and assessment to drive educational innovation through a comparative lens; understand educational policy, governance, and sustainable practices in schooling.
Skills: Analyse complex educational problems using qualitative and quantitative methods; interpret learner data to support evidence-based decision making; design and coordinate educational interventions and projects; present educational solutions effectively to stakeholders.
Responsibility & Autonomy: Utilize a mixed-methods approach to synthesize quantitative trends and qualitative insights; reflect critically on own practice and implement improvements; demonstrate ethical and accountable professional conduct as a teacher/instructor.
Awards to be Conferred
Bachelor en Arts de Éducation (Bachelor of Arts in Education): Awarded by Institut Brittany d’Enseignement Supérieur (IBES) upon successful completion of the full 3-year programme (180 ECTS).
Diplôme d’Établissement in Education: Conferred after successful completion of Year 1 and Year 2 (120 ECTS).
Certificat d’Établissement in Education: Conferred after successful completion of Year 1 (60 ECTS).
Programme Structure
The programme is a 3-year full-time programme consisting of 18 core modules, with 6 modules per year (60 ECTS annually). Each module is worth 10 ECTS. Total credits: 180 ECTS.

Assessment Strategies
For Year 1 and Year 2 Modules:
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) Examination: 50%
Coursework/Practical Assignment: 30% (e.g., essays, articles, case studies, lesson plans)
Presentation/Demonstration: 20%
For Year 3 Modules:
100% Coursework, which may take the form of:
- Work-Based Educational Report
- Academic Research Paper
- Reflective Learning Log/Journal
- Practical Project
- Case Study or Simulation
General Grading:
- Distinction: 70 – 100%
- Merit: 60 – 69%
- Pass: 50 – 59%
- Fail: 0 – 49%
Degree Classifications (based on Year 3 performance):
- First Class Honours: Aggregate of 70% or above
- Second Class Honours, Upper Division: Aggregate of 60% – 69%
- Second Class Honours, Lower Division: Aggregate of 50% – 59%
Entry Requirements
Minimum Entry Requirements for Year 1:
- A minimum of 2 A Levels passes; OR
- Any equivalent achievement (e.g., Higher School Certificate, Canadian Grade 13); OR
- NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 3 awards; OR
- IBES recognized University Access or Foundation programme.
- English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.0 or equivalent (e.g., TOEFL), or completion of a programme taught and assessed in English for a minimum of 6 months.
Direct Final Year Entry Requirements:
EQF Level 4 and Level 5 qualification in Education or a related field; OR
One or more diplomas accruing 120 ECTS credits or equivalent (60 ECTS at Level 4 and 60 ECTS at Level 5) with a total duration of at least 2 academic years. Key areas like Learning Theories, Classroom Management, and Assessment Principles should have been covered.
Other qualifications may be considered by the admission panel.
Advanced Standing (APL): Accreditation of Prior Learning can be granted for entry into Year 2 or Year 3 based on certificated prior learning.

Duration for Completion: Maximum of 4 years (the Board of Examiners may terminate a student’s enrolment if requirements are not completed within 5 years).
Notional Hours per Module: 250 hours (for a 10 ECTS module)
