Programme Aims
The programme aims to:
- Develop advanced teaching and instructional strategies tailored to Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary, Special Education Needs (SEN), Physical Education, TESL, and Curriculum Development.
- Deepen understanding of theories, practices, and methodologies specific to each specialisation, enabling educators to become subject matter experts.
- Equip educators with skills to create inclusive, equitable learning environments that address diverse needs and the impact of educational technology.
- Enable effective teaching of English as a second language, facilitating language acquisition and communication.
- Provide expertise to design, evaluate, and adapt curricula aligned with educational standards and emerging trends.
- Develop expertise in assessing learner progress, using data to inform instructional decisions, and implementing formative/summative assessments.
- Promote understanding of global education issues, cultural sensitivity, and international best practices.
- Develop skills to integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning.

Programme Structure
- Total credits: 180 ECTS
- Duration: 3 academic years (minimum 36 months, maximum 42 months)
- Structure: 18 modules (each 10 ECTS), delivered over three years.

Note: Up to 120 ECTS may be granted via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for advanced entry into Year 2 or Year 3.
Assessment Strategies
The programme uses 100% coursework assessment, with no final examination. Three main assessment instruments are used:

- Degree Classification: First Class Honours (70%+), Second Class Upper (60-69%), Second Class Lower (50-59%)
Entry Requirements
- Year 1 Entry
- Academic: Successful completion of upper secondary education (11–12 years) equivalent to university entrance (e.g., A-Levels, Baccalaureate, Abitur).
- English Proficiency (one of):
- Completion of a programme taught and assessed in English (minimum 6 months)
- IELTS B1 (4.0–5.0) or equivalent TOEFL
- Qualification at EQF Level 2 or above examined in English
- ESOL test aligned to CEFR B1+ or higher (contact IBES)
- Advanced Standing (Year 2 or Year 3 via APL)
- Applicants holding a recognised Diploma or Higher Diploma (equivalent to 2 academic years, RQF/EQF Level 4 & 5, ~120 ECTS) in an education-related field may be admitted directly into Year 2 or Year 3.
- Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is available for certificated or experiential learning, subject to academic panel approval.
Delivery Mode
Two modes are offered:
- Mode A – Blended Learning: 12 hours of face-to-face lectures + 8 hours of online tutoring/interactions per taught module, plus self-directed study using Self-Instructional Module (SIM) materials.
- Mode B – Fully Online: 8 hours of online learning, tutorials, and interactions per taught module, plus self-directed study using SIM materials.
Each module is delivered over 8 weeks (including assessment period), following a prescribed modular planner.
Duration / Notional Hours
- Minimum duration: 36 months (3 academic years)
- Maximum duration: 42 months from commencement date (unless extension granted by the Board of Examiners)
- Notional hours per module: 250 hours (for each 10 ECTS module)
- Total notional hours for the full programme: 18 modules × 250 hours = 4,500 hours
